Standard dyno kit includes: 9" toroidal-flow water-brake absorber, electronic torque-arm transducer, engine load control, DYNOmite handheld data-acquisition computer with backlit LCD and keypad interface option, AC power supply, stainless-braided hoses, puller bolt, data wiring harness, and protective carrying case. (Clutch dyno systems and optional PWC adapters available also.) See Specifications or Models and Prices pages.
DYNOmite data-acquisition electronics eliminate paper and pencil data logging. The DYNOmite computer records true Hp, torque, RPM, elapsed time, etc. (at up to 1,000 readings per second) while automatically applying inertia compensation and SAE correction factors for air temperature, barometric pressure, and relative humidity. No running an engine to death getting a full test curve. Results display on the DYNOmite’s LCD and can be printed to an optional portable ASCII printer. The handheld computer can even do double-duty as a highly advanced on-sled racing data recorder.
DYNO-MAX™ Softwareoption creates a full engine dynamometer lab console on your PC. Features include: real-time trace graph display, EGT bar graph, inertia compensation, adjustable visual limit warnings with voice alarms, pushbutton controls, a full array of operator-configurable analog and digital gauge ranges, color graphing, test-report database, Smart Record™ trigger points, plus much more. Data reports and publication-quality graphs can be printed for your customers – in full color.
Integrate your own PC using DYNO-MAX with appropriate automated electronic load and throttle control hardware options for keyboard dyno control. Without special programming, operators can easily create and execute complex race simulations and engine test cycles.
Patented torque transducer technology is immune to temperature changes and the length of the moment-arm (anti-rotation point). So, it requires no correction for jackshaft center distances. Pushbutton (semi-automatic) zeroing of the torque offset calibration is also standard.
Reads TRUE crankshaft Hp using precision full-bridge (temperature-compensated) strain gauges to directly measure actual torque, instead of estimating from hydraulic pressure or inertial acceleration. Only crankshaft dynamometers isolate Hp from the inconsistencies of belt efficiency, track tension, windage, etc. to provide the repeatable data serious developers need to compare against the OEM’s and other engine builders’ results.
300+ Hp* capacity with our industry-proven, heavy-duty bearing, fast- response 9" toroidal-flow water-brake absorber (mounts directly onto the crankshaft). Test most performance engines from your ¾" garden hose (or higher-flow) water supply.* (Other water or eddy-current absorbers are available to test any capacity snowmobile engine.)
MAX – How Water Brakes Work - Animated look at how water-brake absorbers create load (MAX narrated).
Load engines indefinitely, water-brake absorbers are not limited to only a few seconds of flash inertial track acceleration. It’s a tool… not a toy.
Precision designed and manufactured for strength, accuracy, and reliability. Each water-brake absorber, torque arm, load-valve, etc. is beautifully CNC machined from anodized aircraft billet aluminum and heat-treated 17-4 stainless steel.
Advanced standard features including: Smart Record™ test-recording trigger points, data dampening with spike filtering, auto-zeroing, instant playback, adjustable graph-data averaging, atmospheric correction and integral adjustable engine rev-limiter.
Everything gets tested, right in the sled, the way you run it. Evaluate air- box flow, throttle travel and oil-injection-cable adjustments, fuel-delivery system, exhaust routing, motor- mount play, vibration problems… everything.
Develop quicker sleds by finally pinpointing the optimum RPM range for every horsepower gain (or shift). Evaluate components, tuning changes, durability, etc. Learn things “you never knew – you never knew.”
Isolate clutching efficiency gains from ones that are just due to RPM calibration improvements, without endless trial and error field testing, as only true crankshaft and clutch dynamometers can do this! All the OEMs use them.
Profitably troubleshoot without snow or wasting your valuable time trailering around trying to find conditions where you can accurately test. Why run up non-billable hours separating owners’ imagined power losses from real ones? Customers who scream over a charge for on-snow testing willingly pay extra for dyno time… as long as it includes a computer printout. Smart dealers routinely display the DYNOmite to enhance their shop’s image and to support higher labor rates!
Easy test set-ups by mechanics with little, or no, dyno and computer experience. Even run outside, without an expensive dyno-cell ventilation system. Just remove the sled’s clutches, bolt the DYNOmite to the PTO, hook up a few wires and hoses, and test (without spending hours swapping a dirty suspension). Go right from riding, to outputting Hp data, in less than 15 minutes. Watch the snowmobile dyno test video!
Automated load control simplifies steadying the peaky snowmobile engines, it reacts faster to sudden torque changes than most humans can. Our optional electronic-servo load valve replaces the standard manual-load control. Once installed you use buttons to select the test RPM, or sweep rate, and then let the computer do the rest of the work.
Affordable upgrades including: thermostatically controlled cooling tower, jackshaft RPM/MPH sensors, fuel-flow and airflow turbines, AFR modules (4-strokes), clutch efficiency dyno conversion, weather Station, EGT (exhaust- gas temperature) thermocouples, pressure transducers, thermistors, and both servo load and throttle control options.
Specialty dynamometers for sled testing are available as both production and custom systems. As you can see on these pages, we manufacture more types of dynos than any other company in the world. Are you looking for a drive-on track model for quickly running-in stock snow machines, a CVT dyno for designing clutches, an AC dynamometer for advanced R&D lab emissions testing, or a 600 Hp 12,000 RPM Siamese-rotor absorber for asphalt-drag engine dynoing? If so, we can help you.
Live-person technical phone support, from our true snowmobile dynamometer testing experts, provides a significant advantage over other companies’ obnoxious voice-mail runarounds. Land & Sea’s employees enjoy riding, racing, dynoing and talking sleds. Note: Your standard hardware phone and e-mail support, plus 24/7 access to the DYNOmite owners web support area, will all be FREE!
*Approximate; continuous capacities depend on selected absorber and test speed. Air-cooled absorber loads are rotor temperature dependent. Water brake power capacities are RPM dependent and assume a minimum water supply of 1 gpm @ 30 to 60 psi for every 20 continuous Hp. Call Land & Sea, Inc. at (603) 226-3966 for the approximate capacity of any specific test configuration.
